Distinguishing features

Pale background colour with several orange stripes running along body, most distinct on face, faintly crosshatched with about nine indistinct yellow to pale orange bars; an orange spot at base of tail with white above and below.

Comments

Many Lizard Island specimens do not seem to be as strongly crosshatched as those from other areas, as illustrated in fish guides (e.g. Allen et al, 2003).
