Distinguishing features

A small silvery fish with a downward-turned snout giving a concave profile below the mouth, tail with a dark trailing edge, and sometimes displaying indistinct bars on body made up of rectangular spots.

Local abundance

  • Lizard Island: Small (10-20 cm) individuals are frequently seen close to Casuarina Beach, especially early in the morning. They may be solitary or in small, loose groups.
