Distinguishing features

A relatively large goby with extravagant fins. Colour pattern of the specimen photographed here does not match published description/photos exactly (Allen et al, 2003; Allen and Erdmann, 2012) but this id has been confirmed by goby expert, Dr Doug Hoese (Australian Museum). Unmentioned in the earlier guides is a large rosette below and slightly forward of the eye which is present on the Lizard Island specimen and the photo from PNG in those publications.
