Distinguishing features
Commonly orange red on upper head with bright blue lines running from head onto dark blue/grey body; tail white; black spot outlined in blue on rear dorsal fin; a dark "ear" spot and a dark spot at base of pectoral fin, both of which are difficult to see in the orange/red form. A brown form has all features above except for overall colour.
Juveniles have a blue stripe on exact mid-dorsal line rather than a pair of stripes, one on each side of the dorsal line as in juveniles of Pomacentrus vaiuli (Allen and Erdmann, 2012).
