Distinguishing features

A large jellyfish with an evenly grey/white bell; numerous dense narrow pink tentacles.

Size

  • Up to 100 cm (Bell diameter reported for some species in this genus)
  • Up to 30 cm (Bell diameter of Lizard Island specimens)

Local abundance

  • Lizard Island: Not present in the area normally but when there's one, there's usually more. Filmmaker Peter Parks noted this species here in the 1980s. There were no further sightings recorded until Jan 2019 when several people reported seeing them.
