Distinguishing features

Colonies usually hemispherical or helmet-shaped and form micro-atolls in intertidal areas; colour variable, often cream or pale brown but may be blue, purple or green in shallow water; corallites are open and have relatively few skeletal elements (Veron, 2000).

  • Up to 400 cm (colony diameter according to Veron (2000).)
