Distinguishing features

A large shiny, dark brown beetle common at Lizard Island during summer. Males are unmistakeable with a large, curved, forked spine on the head an another on the thorax. Females are smaller and do not have horns.

Comments

The correct species name has not been determined. Both Xylotrupes ulysses and Xylotrupes gideon are recorded from North Queensland by GBIF (accessed 26 Jan 2017).
