Distinguishing features

A small, cryptic scorpionfish with 15-16 pectoral fin rays, lacking long tentacles above the eyes.

These features seem to eliminate P. aurita and P. picta (which have 17-18 pectoral fin rays) and P. mossambica (which has long tentacles above the eyes) (Fishes of Australia accessed 5 Jan 2022).
