Distinguishing features
A silver fish with a low, inconspicuous dorsal fin. Usually seen in in pairs along the edges of reefs and in passes. Interior of mouth and tongue are white but this is not a good field character.
This species was in LIFG up to Aug 2023, based only on a photo taken and identified by Andy Lewis from an unknown location. AH thinks the photo is of Craterognatus plagiotaenia.

Distribution and habitat preferences
Generally areas of deep water close to reef edges, but will move into lagoonal areas to feed.
Can be found in most reef habitats around the island, although prefers reef margins near deep water.
Behaviour
This species feeds mainly on small fishes and is usually seen in pairs patrolling the edges of reefs.
