Distinguishing features

Usually fully exposed although the central disc area is sometimes partially hidden. Usually ten arms. Very slimy when touched. A good ring of cirri, often clinging tenaciously to its perch. Colour is distinctive: light to dark brown, sometimes with white on a few pinnules.

Distribution and habitat preferences

Prefers sites with a good water flow. Often found on a brown soft coral 2 to 3 metres below the reef crest.

Found in most places around the Lizard Island group but never in large numbers.
