Photo of Animalia: False Cleanerfish (species: Aspidontus taeniatus) (Lizard Island Field Guide)

Aspidontus taeniatus about 5 cm long, oriented to boat several kilometres off Hicks Reef. Colour changed from blue and black stripes (very similar to Labroides dimidiatus) to rows of C-shaped markings as shown. Thanks to Jeff Johnson (Queensland Museum) for the identification.

Jeff noted in iNaturalist (27 Jan 2021) about this photo: "Juveniles have anterior dorsal spines elongated & upper edge of caudal fin white. See Fig. 123 of a juvenile A. taeniatus 46.8mm SL in Smith-Vaniz's 1976 monograph of sabre toothed blennies."
