Distinguishing features

White/cream gound colour with a broad central band of small dark spots and transverse black lines along the margin with a "halo" orange around them forming an indistict, broken submarginal band. Distinct pseudotentacles with black spots as for the central band.

The type locality for Maritigrella fuscopunctata is Broome, WA. An illustration of the holotype (Prudhoe, 1978) shows a similar colour pattern except that the spots are much larger in the central band, they are described as brown or golden brown rather than black, and there is no mention of orange colouration near the margin.

The Lizard Island morph appears stable and it remains to be determined whether they fit within the range of variation of Maritigrella fuscopunctata.
