Distinguishing features

A thick erect rachis with polyps restricted to two series of thick opaque polyp leaves, one on each side of the central shaft. Needle-like sclerites within polyp leaves form strong rays. (All from Williams, 1995)

Local abundance

  • Lizard Island: Uncommon, but off-reef soft-bottom habitat is not often visited.
