Distinguishing features

A teardrop-shaped carapace with two short rostral horns and short, thick eyestalks.

Two common species in Australia, S. aspera and S. dama are distinguished by having one or two side-spines on the rostral horns, respectively (Jones and Morgan, 1994). S. aspera has been recorded from Lizard Island previously (Atlas of Living Australia accessed 2 Jan 2020).
