Distinguishing features

No suborbital spine below the eye and 17-18 pectoral fin rays (these characters separate both P. aurita and P. picta from all congeners). First and second suborbital ridges are separated (not separated in P. picta). (Motomura et al, 2009). Radiating lines around the eye.
