Details about the specimen(s)

  • Specimen count is not recorded.
  • The record does not indicate whether reproduction was occurring.

Observation period was April-May 1988.

At least two adults seen almost every day over the island and sea. Probably a nest on South Island because the adults seemed to return there every evening and the only observation of an immature individual was at South Island. One was observed over a resting colony of bats (on which they prey), Pteropus alecto. Another flew over a small colony of Crested Terns at Osprey Island and was immediately attacked by at least 20 of the terns.
