Location details

  • Lizard Island, Queensland

  • Ferrier's Creek

  • Marine specimens found at a depth between 0 m and 2 metres.

Details about the specimen

  • 1 specimen. (exact)
  • specimen alive when found.
  • specimen alive at end of the observation process.
  • specimen left in natural environment.
  • Reproduction was not occurring.

A fisherman or crew member from a charter boat reported that he had been bitten on the head by a small crocodile while snorkelling in Ferrier's Creek. No serious damage. A subsequent newspaper report said that his injuries did not align with an attack and QPWS officers were unable to find a croc (which is unusual - if one is reported, they usually find it quite easily). The suggestion is that the croc attack did not happen.

Initial report was by Alex Vail who heard about it from resort maintenance staff; newspaper report without any reference details was received at LIRS on 27 Apr 2017.
