A specimen from MacGillivray Reef near Lizard Island is in the Australian Museum collection identified as this species which was first described from 55 to 82 metres depth in the China Sea and which is not otherwise known from Australia. This casts doubt on the accuracy of the identification (Ribas & Hutchings, 2015).
